To me, family is the core of who I am.  I have been married for 51 years and my husband and I share tremendous pride in our children and grandchildren.  Our two children are beautiful adults who share my desire to make a difference in the world. Our grandchildren fill our hearts with love and pride.

I am a retired educator who spent over 30 years ensuring that the needs of both my students and their families were the focus of our work.  I was an elementary teacher and then principal for 25 years, was promoted to director and retired as an Assistant Superintendent. My focus on the well-being of those I worked with was paramount to everything I did.

After retiring, I concentrated my efforts on becoming a Hospice volunteer.  My goal was to bring as much comfort and compassion to my patients as possible.  I was trained in Reiki and Healing Touch, Aromatherapy, and Vigiling.   In addition, I had my son’s dog certified to be a pet companion so I could bring him with me on visits. Most recently I received a certification as an End of Life Doula. Bringing smiles, love and joy to my patients has become my passion.

During my time with hospice, I became aware of the need to support patients before they were eligible for hospice care, and was able to be a part of a transition program. During this time, I became acutely aware of the critical need for non-medical support for patients diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses.  Once the transitions program ended, my commitment to these patients led to the establishment of “Stepping Stones”, along with my good friend Jane who also shares this passion.

My heart has always been the driver of my journey, bringing about variety of outcomes, but driving me non-the less.  I am always grateful for the perspective it gives me.

I married my best friend Jay 42 years ago.  Raising our children has been one of my greatest joys.  It warms my heart to know that it doesn’t stop there and that being a grandparent is just as amazing and fulfilling.

After getting my kids started in school, I took a part job in their school district.  I learned that my love of children went beyond loving my own.  Supporting the kids became my joy, the part time became full time as school secretary.  The school, the kids and parents became my second family.  The Cambrian School District was my second home for 25 years.

During those years of working at the district, I was also a caregiver for my mother, my grandmother, my grandfather, and finally my father.  I knew at that time there was a calling to care for my loved ones who were gravely ill and felt it my honor to see them thru this life and on.

I was inspired to become a hospice volunteer because of my experiences with hospice who so graciously cared for my family. Once retired, I became a hospice volunteer.  I felt a strong compassion for those who were ill and wanted all the tools.  I trained in Aromatherapy, Reiki, Healing Touch and learned to vigil for patients who are actively dying. Most recently I received a certification as an End of Life Doula.  I have supported patients in their home, in residential care facilities as well as a residential hospice house.

I started Stepping Stones, with a wonderful friend and colleague who feeds my soul and shares the same passion and heart of caring for others.  Our mission is to advocate and improve quality of life for clients and their families who are managing a life-threatening illness.  My heart is again the driver of this endeavor.  I cannot wait to see where the road takes us!
